New Year Revelers Advised to Bundle Up with Snow Expected Across the UK
Weather experts have indicated an icy commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Events Proceed In Spite of Alerts
The Scottish capital's iconic Hogmanay festivities are expected to proceed, a contrast to last year's postponement. This proceeds amid advisories for snow over northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so extra layers will be necessary," noted the weather service.

As we enter Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Drop Further
As 2026 begins, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are forecast to drop further as snowfall and high winds are likely to affect the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Medical Alerts Activated
At the same time, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with temperatures forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency explained this indicated the weather was expected to cause significant impacts across medical and care provision. This encompasses a likely increase in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those in the older age groups.
