Alina Habba has stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that invalidated her right to serve.

Acceptance of Resignation

US Attorney General, the Attorney General, accepted Habba's resignation on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it impossible for Habba to lead the department effectively.

"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," Habba stated. "The effort will now reach across America."

Court Ruling

Habba's exit follows closely on a judicial panel found that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This decision is could influence many criminal cases in the Garden State.

The appellate judges said that a temporary posting that skirted confirmation by the US Senate breached the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

It was also stated that she will remain at the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. They intend to pursue additional appeals of the court's action, aiming for a reversal.

Writing online, the Attorney General wrote that judges "must not countermand the President's choice of attorneys entrusted with executing the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."

Performance in Office

Bondi commended her tenure and pointed out that under her leadership, the Newark saw a significant drop in crime. It was also reported that the city of Camden experienced its first summer in half a century without a homicide.

Background and Previous Role

Habba, first joined Trump's personal legal team in recent years. She later represented the former president in his New York criminal case in 2024, which resulted in his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of falsifying business records.

Earlier, Habba took on the top New Jersey post, the former president had stated he was naming her as his White House advisor during his second administration, calling the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a "tireless advocate for justice".
