Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a camera operator in the wake of the Citizens' 2-1 defeat away to the Magpies this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, looking back. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. Why I want to defend my team is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, high nineties, otherwise we don’t win it."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, have you ever heard me about the quadruple last winter during our historic run? No."

On the subject of his talk with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "I've known him a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we converse. We often meet and I always have a good relationship. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and move my hands."

Guardiola would not be concerned if an opposition manager spoke to his players immediately after a game. "No - as long as you talk with respect as I do, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. Goodness, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later show he was level.

Upcoming Milestone

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game versus Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

City have 10 points from four matches of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
