Democrats Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Message That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who previously served in defense or intelligence capacities.

"Similar to us, you all swore an pledge to safeguard and support this founding document," the representatives declared in the brief video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our regulations are clear, you can reject unlawful commands, you can refuse illegal orders, you should decline unlawful commands. No one has to follow orders that break the law or our founding principles."

Trump's Furious Response

The video message seemed to prompt a furious reply from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he declared: "This represents really serious, and Harmful to our Country. Their words cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership released a joint statement condemning the statements.

"Political violence has no place in America," they wrote. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all worked our nation with exceptional national pride and distinction. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky death threats against members of Congress, and call on House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in touch with protective services "to make certain the protection of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must immediately remove these extreme social media posts and retract his aggressive language before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Officials' Strong Answer

The representatives who participated in the video also issued a statement.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who value this country and took an pledge to protect and uphold the national charter of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we intend to honor it. No threat, intimidation, or call for violence will stop us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The significant point is that the president deems it liable to punishment by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they continued. "Armed forces members should know that we have their protection as they fulfill their oath to the founding principles and obligation to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "The entire nation must unite and denounce the president's calls for our murder and political violence. This is a period for ethical certainty."

More Governmental Comments

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's remarks and shared on social media: "It's important to understand: the former president is demanding the death of elected officials."

He stated: "This represents an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, all citizens – regardless of party – should condemn this right away and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "treason", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This represents very dangerous, you have important representatives of Congress telling troops to defy commands, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also according to sources stated to the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's publications, Trump was "describing the offense of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to parse the language and determine all that."

Administration Reaction

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is reacting to," the representative declared. "We see current representatives of the American legislature who worked together to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members advising them to defy the executive's legal commands."

She stated: "The purity of our defense system depends on the hierarchy, and if that structure is compromised, it can lead to people getting killed, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are basically promoting."
