Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
