British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
